ny thrill seekers ride the challenge day 4

Day 4 Monday may 28th, I got up at 6am, writtin on my blog and getting ready for my ride I will be out  by 8 and ride for every 20 miles and met Edwin  and tj at 20 miles marks only useing google maps for this ride. I will keep you guys with up dates every night and on facebook.

Day 4 continued, I got up pretty early and ready for this morning so I could have time to prepare the map and route for today. Last night it was thundering, and pouring outside so this morning looked very foggy and the ground was a bit wet too. I got into an argument with my son Edwin but I think it was cause I was still all messed up on what happened to vasil, so I had to learn to relax and focus and have some fun on this ride. So i started my ride from the hotel, I when up the side roads until I hit 45 west, until 144 north. 45 west was great for the first 25 to 30 miles after that it was up the mountain, and man! it got up and up and up the temperature was over and the sun was beating on me like it was no tomorrow, half way to 3/4th of the mountain I had to get off my bike and walk the rest. This mountain was a constant incline for a few miles, I think! Lol. It seems like it was forever while walking this mountain my calf were so pumps I already drank all of my water and almost reaching empty with my Gatorade bottle.

At the top of the mountain Edwin and TJ were waiting for me because they found a cool place to take a pic! Thank god! Lol You guys have no idea how happy I was they stopped there!!! Remember I’m not a professional biker and I respect the bikers now more than ever, this sport it is a beautiful sport and just as dangerous and strenuous as any extreme sport… it is a pure work out, I must have burned a few hundred to a few thousands calories today.

Once I hit 144 north I when back towards 80 west and before hitting 80west I got picked up by Edwin and TJ so we could find a hotel along route 80 west, and take a rest and called it the day of day 4. Im not sure how many miles I was able to out in today, the best way is to stay on one road and not take so many side streets. Now we are in the hotel, Edwin and tj when to get Chinese food and we are watching river monsters. Tomorrow we should be out of PA, I hope so, PA is all mountains and man! PA is rough. A couple of times I gotten lost and had Edwin and TJ picking me up to get back to track, the biggest problem we ran into is that many places in PA have no signal. So I had no GPS no phone so before I leave Edwin and TJ we make a game plan on what route I will stay just in case anything happened they know where to find me.

Once I get back to New York I know I could at least 100 miles tour not win but I know I could finish it.

Well this is it for day 4 the Chinese food is here, thank good!!!! Lol

This ride would’ve been an amazing reality tv show!!! We have run into so many wild and crazy things in the last few days.

due to last nights storm the internet is out, so i had to drive to mcdonals to post this journal

ny thrill seekers ride the challenge day 3

Sunday may 27th day 3, Vasil woke up and he was talking, at about 630 am, he was able to recognize people and have small conversation, still had his sense of humor with him. On meds for the pain but he knew what happened to him. I thought about all night whether I should finish the bike tour or not. I called someone the night of the accident and her first words were YOU ARE GOING TO FINISH IT RIGHT? So while waiting to find out news about vasil, I couldn’t decide, and every time I closed my eyes I could see my friends face when I first found him on the floor. So when I hear he woke up it was an answer to me, just make sure he was ok and finish what we set out to do. I told his sister Julie I will continued the bike tour, she said it was ok. So I called my son Edwin to come and follow me while I did this ride, and let’s make it like a road trip, Edwin took a while he when out and got one of his friends to come with him in one of our famous road trips!!! To finish this bike tour I wanted to have a little more control and stick to a plan because too many things already have gone wrong and we almost lost a life for it. So Edwin got back to me and got his friend tj to come with him. They picked me up at the hospital, we were pretty much off track, so we got pizza hut and made a plan with them. Get a hotel for the night and I will reset a new road route, pack different and meet them every 20 miles at a certain point, follow google maps for bike, and ride about 60 to 80 miles per day if I can. Also my self and vasil are grown man and we know the good and bad about extreme sports and we love what we do and if we could do this until we die I know we will. We are doing this bike tour for a few reasons

  1. to set our personal challenge to the next level
  2. To raise money and awareness for non-profit organization and help our communities this particular event is YAI
  3. To establish the long bike tour on the east coast
  4. And to show that anything can be done with dedication and motivation

Vasil will be out of commission from doing extreme sports for a little while but the best things about myself and vasil is that we are not just the guys who do the events but also the business minds behind every event we do.

ny thrill seekers ride the challenge day 2

On SUTURDAY may 26th was a long day, I got up about 7 o’clock in the morning at igors house and vasil was already up working on the map

route. I was tired because we only had about 3 hours of sleep. My self and Amanda got into a small disagreement and she decided to go back home and Igor would give her a ride, while vasil’s parents will stay with us as we do the ride. This was a very strange day; it was like we had signs written all over that day, to not ride that day.

We put the bikes on Vasils parent’s truck so we could go back to the same starting point we left off, as vasil backed up the truck he bottomed out and bent his front tire a little, but we didn’t know this until we got on starting point from our ride. We took the bike to a bike shop and the person working on it didn’t have the right tools so he turned the spoke too much so we had to take the bike to another shop and the guy in the shop fixed the bike and did it for free, once he found out what me and Vasil where doing for the YAI. The moment we got ready to ride it starting to pour out side so we got some Chinese food and waiting for the rain to go away.

Once the rain stooped we got ready to ride, we got our bikes ready and started to ride, it was ironic Vasil’s mom told us it may be a better idea if we just go to the hotel get some rest and start the ride the next day, but I think both of us were just too anxious to ride and get it over with. So we go on our bikes and started to ride. We rode for about 20 minutes or a half an hour it was all downhill, and the hills where pretty big, we must have done about 45 to 60 miles an hour while holding my breaks light going down those hills. I know at some time Vasil clocked the speedometer at about 70 miles per hour going down those mountains.

Then we hit another hills this one was a little different it was very grainy and wet also extreme curvy, it is funny cause it just felt a little different. Vasil was in front of me because he had the route on his phone and he was leading the way my phone was losing connection. I had my break on while going down so I was behind about 30 feet away from Vasil, as we made a sharp right turn I saw Vasil’s front tired rapidly shaking, then it did it again, then as he made the right turn I saw him come off the bike and rolled to the side, it happened it seconds.

I got to him in about 5 seconds after he when down. I saw his bike on one side and then I saw or thought I saw his camel pack next to the rail, I thought Vasil fell down the hill and his pack was there next to the guard metal rail, as I ran to the bag I realize that it was him against the rail in a fetal position, I pulled him off the rail and turned him around as he turned i saw his faces was full of blood with a huge gash on his fore head, like the size of a quarter, he was foaming from the moth like a seizure, and breathing extreme heavy. I took off my shirt and covered his head injury, so he wouldn’t bleed as much, within 5 or 8 minutes his parents came down from the hill top on their truck, his dad ran towards us, and i could see his father disbelieve of his song been on the floor like that. As he came closer he knew it was serious, i could feel his fear and pain in his voice and face, I also have kids and it is the worse feeling in the world to see your kids hurt. Vasil’s father and I kept him down while everyone around us helped us. His father was talking to him; Vasil was talking in and out but didn’t make any sense. I kept trying to talk to him to keep him conscious and and we both kept him from touching his head and from trying to stand up. he was screaming from the pain at times and at other he was just passing out. His mother stopped a truck passing by, and we got ice from a lady driving a truck, he was in shock from the massive hit to his body and head, his cloths were ripped apart from scraping the floor, his elbows full of blood and scraped the layers of skin, his knuckles and finger scrapped and bleeding. His helmed was cracked from the impact. His knees also scrapped he kept sating about his leg hurting him and his wrist. The head wound was so close to his eye that if it would’ve been 1/4 of an inch close he would’ve lost his right eye. Also his ear was full of blood, he cracked a tooth and his was scratched up and nonstop bleeding.

Man! If it wasn’t for that helmet he would’ve never made it. Sometimes is hard to believe in god or something bigger than us but when you see what I saw yesterday is hard not to believe. The ambulance came very fast and the cops too, the EMT people took off his helmet and the camel pack by cutting it out of his back, they immediate out a neck brace to stabilize him, and within minutes they got him on a stretcher and put him on the ambulance with his mother. I got the bikes together gave the information to the police, and We followed the ambulance to geisinger wyoming valley hospital in plains PA it was about 20 minute ride. The ride felt like it was for hours neither me nor his father talked as we drove to the hospital. We didn’t know if he was going to make it to through the night or even through the ambulance ride. we arrived at the hospital his father walked in and i waited at the waiting room  i called Amanda and told her what happend. I waited few minutes then his mother came out and told me to come in. you could see his father trying to control his feelings and his mother supporting him by his side as we waited in the ER emergency room waiting area. His parents when to see him as i waited in that room for a few hours, i called edwin and julie and told them what happend i also posted on facebook, and i actually didnt know who else to called so i called my ex and right after i did i realized i made a mistake, i guess it was like a fight or flight reaction, i didnt know who to talk to and tell them how i felt too! and i almost felt like i had not right been there or feel bad and angry and lost, cause i wasnt family but just a friend. I needed someone i once trusted with my life and say i need to talk i need your help. but it was just a familiar long gone feeling. when the doctors came out and told us his injuries where very bad and it may be a chance that he would not make it through the night i was lost too and confuse. People in the hospital couldn’t believe this happened in a bicycle they thought it was a motorcycle accident. He was in and out and it was a horrible site to see, a good friend almost gone in a second a young guy at the middle of his life waiting for a miracle to happened. They clean him up a bit put ivy on him and as the night when by they took him upstairs CPU section to be admitted. Once upstairs he was on medication and been monitored.

The rest of vasils family came to the hospital later on that night as the already moved him to CPU section upstairs, all we could do was pray and wait for a miracle. We all stood there for hours his sister Julie came his cousins, uncle and Aunt as well as Amanda Greer a good friend of Vasil’s. You could feel the tension in that room. we all tryd to get some what comfortable and waited till he could come throught, at about 2 or 3 am i when to the cpu waiting room and close my eyes, all i could see is Vasil face bleeding.

so we waited for day 3

ny thrill seekers ride the challenge day 1

Hi everyone this is day one journal for the n y thrill seekers ride the challenge bike tour from nyc to Chicago.

On Friday may 25th we set pour to do and epic bike tour called ride the challenge to promote and raise money for the young adult institute, an organization that help and provides relives for mentally disable people and children, also known as YAI.

On Friday we took off from morning Side Park in nyc, at about 1130 am, it was myself David Coello, Vasil Ranchinskiy founder of NY thrill Seekers and Amanda Greer. We when up town to the George Washington bridge, while crossing the bridge myself and vasil hit a bridge connector on the floor and we both got flats on our bikes, I lost both of my water bottles on the bump. we had to ride our bikes out of the bridge and try to fix them asap, but we ran into some problems with the bike pumps it turns out we had European tubes and not American so the mouth is smaller and I wasn’t sure how to make our pumps fit that air gage. After working with the pumps for a few minutes without any positive results, vasil and I took on the power of technology and looked for a bike shop near us on our phones. vasil found one within minutes it was about a mile away from us, We walked towards the bike shop on jersey.

At the bike shop we got both bikes fixed the people in the bike shop were the best, great personality good prices and took care of us in minutes, after that we go on our way. Our original route from map my ride got lost, that application is pretty cool but very difficult to use for long distance I think google will be better. So we had to reset a new route, we took route 46 all the way up for the first 50 to 60 miles into the ride, we met our friend Igor at the first stop point for the night. Due to the hills on this route it took us about 7 hours of riding with stops in between when we got tired and breaks for water snacks, energy drinks and to stretch. Some of those hills were brutal!!!   Then he invited us to his house near Poconos so we could spend the night in his house and have a home cooked meal. We met vasil parent at igors house then igor and I cooked steak, corn, macaroni salad, potatoes and pasta.  After our meal Vasil and I had to go back to staten island and pick up some items that where left on my truck we drove there at about 12 and got back around 4 am.

After all this items and road blocks we managed to deal with and finish our first day on our bike tour.
